Here we are gathered....

Here we are gathered to pay homage to the Logan Council and all who are elected by the citizens to serve.
May their decisions be clear, concise and for the enhancement of the lives of all who live, work and play within the boundaries as set down by a balding man in an office far, far away.
May their plans be far sighted, positive and pro active.
May their fees, charges and hidden taxes be fair and reasonable.
May they create an environment where at the very least our lifestyles are maintained and hopefully improved and may the day come that we the citizens have cause to be grateful for the efforts of the elected few and the fruit of their labour.

Once upon a time....

Once upon a time in an office far, far away in the big city of Brisbane a robustly built man with thinning hair had a big idea.
"How about" he thought out loud, "How about I find a way to make everything easier for all of the citizens by reducing the number of Councils and merging many of them together".
So he set about canvassing opinions and thought a little about any political fallout that might eventuate from the mergers.
"Hmmm" he thought, "All I need to do to get this through with minimum resistance is to get the biggest Council onside by leaving them be, after all the media all operate out of that local government authority".
So he called his buddy Candoo who also had thinning hair and let him know that the biggest city of them all would not be affected.
Time passed and various tinpot emperors had their minions submit wishlists to the robust balding man who lived far, far away with suggestions on how they could each steal the gold from their neighbours.
The robust balding man looked at the wishlists and decided it was all too much effort for him to be bothered with and so he passed them on to a younger, less robust balding man who was eager to please.
Whilst the younger, balding man was eager to please, he had little experience of the world hence his lack of robustness or perhaps conviction.
At anyrate, the younger balding man attacked his task with great gusto despite being oblivious to the potential for his decisions to change the citizens' lives forever and not in a good way.
Upon completion of this task, the younger balding man presented his report to the robust balding man who quickly checked that none of the changes would affect him personally or any of his similarly robust friends before having the Town Crier release it to the citizens.
As expected, the tinpot emperors were not pleased bemoaning the "loss of a rates base" and other forms of gold. Some also finally became aware that the career opportunities for tinpot emperors at that level had suddenly reduced, so they took their bats and balls home and tried their hands with other levels of empires.
Of course many of the citizens were unhappy too, after all many had moved to certain empires to escape the problems of other empires and now they found themselves back in that empire again.
The robust balding man took these criticisms in his rather ample stride after all, the citizens had been similarly sceptical when he sold off their electricity to some friends who came bearing gifts and promises of reduced charges and a better life for all, and just look how well that had all turned out.

Many years later (after the robust balding man took on a golden handshake job in a foreign land) the citizens were not happy.
Electricity Charges had increased and their lifestyles were slowly being eroded by tinpot emperors who deemed it suitable to try and fit as many citizens into an acre as they could to maximise revenue so that perhaps one day the areas which once were known for a relaxed rural lifestyle on acreage properties could be as profitable for the tinpot emperor as areas like Eagleby, Bethania, Woodridge and Trinder Park but without the public transport and other amenities.
